We slept tight! Just enough cold. When we woke up, we had a discussion with an old man who explained us that a Canadian is living near where we had sleep, in his big sailboat. After the breakfast, we took the road heading up to Santa Clara and the next other little coastal villages, until Puerto Progresso.
On the road, we saw a house that seemed to be special. So we parked the van near the house to take the time to go visiting this house.
A marvelousness! Since a long time abandoned in appearance, really old house spanish style around 10 inches from the sea. Two floors, a room, apparently the bathroom, which get a door directly on the sea.
Ceilings incredibly high, a second floor now really unstable with a big balcony and a big room. Another room special between the ground floor and the first floor, that we can see on one of the picture of the bathroom. Not really further, we also visit another old building, more recent but also nice to see.
So we take back the road to continue up to San Crisanto. A lot of cyclone's vestiges, at a certain time we were obligated to get the way back because the road was destroyed, you can see the picture.
On the road, lot of little lakes on each side of the road where the water evaporate, letting the salt on the dry sides of those lakes. Near Puerto Progresso, we saw an old hotel apparently abandoned.
We let the van near this hotel and took a walk through this hotel. The tennis grounds were in bad shape and the doors of the hotel was barricaded with almost anything. With chance, really easy to get in!
That's what we've done. In the first room we visited, we go up of stairs and we arrived in a big room, a huge discotheque! Which surprise to see that in really bad shape, the ceiling in part destroyed and also all the floor of the dancefloor, all destroyed. Also, something special, a plate with a fork on a little wall of the discotheque, like if the people here leaved this place quickly letting everything there.
So a gym, two kitchens and another smaller near the beach, a big garage with a little truck and a huge maintenance room for the maintenance guys, the laundry, an exterior stage in the huge interior yard of the hotel and the coulisses behind the stage for the artists, two swimming pools and lot of other things.
So, we've learn from a guy who was on the site, that the hotel is closed since 10 years because of a bad administration and since this time, some cyclones and natural disasters happened here. One of the most interesting visit without any tourist, a completely ghost site! Probably more interesting to visit than Chichen Itza with thousand and thousand of tourists, which is probably a magnificient archaelogic site to visit.
Taking back the way of Puerto Progresso! A big merchandise site, a big city but we don't spend lot of time there. We just stopped in a bakery, buying some things to eat. Heading up to Miranda. This city is more beautiful, with lot of signs of the colonization. Lot of life, smiling people and magnificient city. What can we ask more?
To end the day, we drove all the way down to Uxmal, another archaelogic site that we are going to visit tomorrow.
Here is the map of the day! |
