Step 4 - 19/12/2007 - San Luis Potosi to Lago Chapala
This morning, we woke up a little bit before the city of Matehuala, and then we were on the road to San Luis Potosi! Before leaving, Michael changed to gas filter, another time... Gas is a lot more dirty here than in Quebec.. so...!
Mario drove for about 1 hour, for the first time, and then Michael drove until the end of the day.. he likes too much driving this car!
The landcapes were again very desertics! Cactus, and cactus again!
We passed by the city of Matehuala and then in the big city of San Luis Potosi before getting into the mountains!
Here is the very nice city of San Juan de los Lagos!
There is more agriculture here then ever! We can see on the left a field of Agave, plants used to make the Tequila.
To finish this day, a guy decided to block the route 80.. he told us that a very wide trucks was coming in.. so 30 minutes later here's the big truck!
The next morning, we were on the road to Lake Chapala! We passed into a lot of small villages instead of the big highway to see beautiful city like this one, Atotonilco El Alto.
A little bit further, heading to San Pedro Itzcan, we arrived in front of the lake! Wow!
The view was amazing! Have a look to this picture to understand what I mean by "amazing!"
The Lake Chapala is the biggest in Mexico, it's situated south of the huge city of Guadalajara.
When we start getting down the hill, the asphalt dissappear! Now it was only a road of rocks! It was so hilly !
5 km/h to avoid any accident, a guy in a bicycle even passed us... and then a guy of an horse did the same thing haha! When we finally got at the bottom of the mountains, surprise! The road was closed!! Michael asked the guys with the horse where to go to get out of this road... Another surprise!! The "detour" was into the small village, the one of San Pedro Itzcan, it seemed a lot bigger on the map.. haha!
What an experience! The young people of the village were so happy to see us! They had such huge eyes!
We concluded that we were probably the first white people to pass there.. well.. maybe the first from Quebec enough crazy to go there in such a small road in a Westfalia!
After this unforgettable moment in this small village, we got back to a bigger road, it was going to the city of Chapala, situated on the side of the lake.
When we arrived there, we were very satisfied our our day! Probably the most amazing day since we left from Quebec! The lake was so beautiful...
We took a small walk of the side of the water, staring at the small fisher's boat and the wonderful sunset!
When we got back to he westfalia, we went to the restaurant with the view on the lake, and then Michael asked for the permission to sleep in their parking lot, next to the lake! People were making the fiesta near the parking, until 10:30 when the police came to stop their fun! .. and to stop the noise for us who wanted to sleep! So we finally slept well!
Tomorrow, we're planning to go in Guadalaja and then in Puerto Vallarta! Estamos feliz !!!
Adios! Michael & Mario Here is what we drove: |
