The diesel engine of Carol's truck wake us up around 6h45 in the morning, and all our other friends moving in Acapulco. Good thing because we were supposed to wake up around 6h00.
They gived us some indications to go at their camping in Acapulco near the airport, before taking the road. We took a nice breakfast and did a part of the website, also doing some engine ajustments. Claude, another Québécois living in Playa Linda for the winter, came to our van to talk with us. He also offer us a good coffee, that we drink with him and his charming wife, Charlotte. They were parked near a little river where lot of crocodiles lived, in fact a little place reserved to the wildlife, including lot of bird species and huge iguanas.
Around 11h00 o'clock, we went back on the road heading up to Acapulco, passing by Zihuatanejo. On the road, we saw the magnificient Pacific Ocean, more visible than the other days.
Just entering in Acapulco, we had a nice preview of the city, really huge and mostly built on lot of hills. At a certain time, we arrived to a traffic light. Red, green or yellow? Impossible to say, the lights were as dirty as we didn't know if they were functional. So all the cars on our back were using their horns and many people pass under the “red” light. Just after the red light, a policeman tried to stop us by making signs with his hands... well we didn't really understand what he was doing and why!?! Few seconds later, the police car was on our left and the guys told us to stop on the shoulder of the road.. During 10 minutes, we were hiding that we were understanding everything that he was telling and we continue to speak French again and again. He ask us for 4000 pesos and to go to the police office to go in jail for the night if we don't pay, he also asked us for our driver's license. As many people told us, we kept them because sometimes, the police here would'nt give them back to you. He finally asked us for 1000 pesos in cash (corruption!). Everything was so ridiculous.. only for a red light! But for about 50$ USD it was a really great experience, very funny! We finally found a Wal-Mart where we are going to sleep tonight. Tomorrow we'll go to the Diamante camping to see our friends from Quebec and then we'll probably leave for Puerto Escondido!
